Need a giant banner? We’ve got you covered! We’ve done several of these in the past, with some that were installed on plywood or other hard surfaces, and others that needed to be wind resistant. Cheyenne does get pretty high winds, after all, which translate into a quick and ugly death for banners that are not made properly.
Our large banners are reinforced and heat welded to stand the test of weather and time. When we know that the banner will be mounted outside and subjected to potentially devastating winds, we make them out of breathable mesh material that allows the air to pass by with less resistance. In our experience, mesh banners hold up much better than simply cutting wind slits in traditional banner material. Wind slits actually introduce weak points into the banner, and the corners of the slits are prone to tearing and shredding.
In contrast, mesh banners are designed and produced with small holes built into them throughout the material. Think of it as tiny perforations, except that the material was produced with the holes, the material was not punctured or cut after the fact. If you’ve ever seen or held a needle point canvas, our mesh banner material is very similar. The mesh banner material allows much more air to pass through the banner than cut slits while simultaneously not breaking up the graphic and preserving the structural integrity of the banner.
Admittedly, however, because the mesh material has so many holes in it, the quality of the graphic does take a small hit. The banner may have a faded look compared to a banner that was made with traditional material. For this reason, if the banner is going indoors, or if it will be mounted to a structure that will protect it from the wind, we will use traditional banner material so that the graphic pops out better to its viewers.
